The last pound of dop wax I bought was a sickly pea soup green and not the dark green I always used. This stuff just gets hard and clumps up in the dop pot after just a very short while of being heated. Have any of you had luck with adding any type of liquid to gummy or clumpy dop wax so it could be used? Some stones i use epoxy on, but dop wax is just so fast and easy when I'm in a hurry to cut a cab

That sounds like the junk I bought a couple of years ago. Horrible stuff! I totally gave up on it and threw it out. Now I use brown faceting wax from Raytech exclusively. It reheats, I've re-used it over and over, and it holds tight even in fairly cold weather. It's a little more expensive but the re-use factor and frustration-lowering qualities are worth it. www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/product.php?id=98052&catID=855

In the latest Kingsley North catalog, they have 2 different grades of green dop wax. The more expensive grade is the good stuff.
It's a shame you're not in on the traveling rock box. I put a whole pound of the good green dop wax in the box. You could have asked that the others save a stick or two for you.

Thanks Rick and jakesrocks. I usually get my wax from my silver supplier and have been happy with the dark green stuff, but this time I got the light green junk even though nothing was posted on the site about a change. Traveling rock box? I'm not familiar with it, but it sounds like fun and Lord only knows I have plenty of rocks to share:-)

Check the top thread in "General Rocks Board" It is a sticky. Those that have jumped in on the Tr. Ro. Box have really enjoyed it.

I stick (get, ha ha) with black wax. It's the most holding power you can get. The drawback is its more brittle and tends to give way at low temps, like when you are cabbing in the cold of winter. Steve

I got some of that stuff. It melts at too high of a temp so it was like trying to dop with peanut butter. Bleh. I threw it out and got the dark green stuff from John.
I suppose you could try increasing the temp you melt it at. I'd just throw it out though unless you bought a whole truckload of it.

I have the Rock Rascal dop pot so can't adjust the temp. It melts sort of ok in the very bottom of the pot, but if I leave the pot on for any length of time after it gets to temp, all the wax just clumps when you try to stir it. It seems like something evaporates out of it and it just dries out. Who is this John you speak of? Still kinda new here and don't know everyone yet.

I snagged one of the dop wax sticks from the traveling rock box, should still be 3 left since the box is in limbo.
