This first one is with "reconstituted" turquoise as a backer...... This one is my favorite, black agate as a backer. Someone had asked me if I polish the backer before gluing to the front piece. I actually rough it up. The epoxy has better adhesion that way and it fills and seals the scratches so there's no need to polish......

Very very nice. Like creating an entirely different stone. Love the black! You should try a purple too...

It does really make the plumbs have a 3-D effect. My fav is the black one.

Fantastic Randy. Really beautiful and brings new potential for any clearer rock. Can you please show us a side view. I am interested in how the seam looks. Do you need a bezel or it it good as is? Great job!

that turquoise takes it to the top, but the black agate simply has it rocketing off wayyyyy out of the park.

Agreed, the black is incredible! I don't normally like these backed like this but that black and the red one you did kick butt.

That looks fantastic, do yuo glue the two pieces together then grind them, or grind each individually then glue them together?

Great looking doublets Randy. I've never tried Regency Rose for my colored cabs before. Looks like you got some good clear agate in yours.

Mark- The seam is completely invisible. I epoxy the slabs together, then cut, grind and polish as one stone. The epoxy is as clear as glass and very strong, and polished just like the rest of the stone.

Pardon my rock ignorance but what is the stone used for the topping? (and where can I get some, I'd like to try that with some local agates) Thanks! Phil
