Howdy folks, I mentioned the other day that I've been having a tough time with my final polish. Well, I corrected the problem by simply running the polish stage ten days in the UV-10 in Rockshed AO. This is weird because for years I've run only 4-5 days in this polish and achieved a very fine shine. Still confused as to exactly what the problem is but I'm wondering if the AO in this last batch of polish is a little coarser than it has been in the past so the longer run is necessary to break it down. Have any of you noticed this problem? Nothing else in my process has been changed for as long as I've used Rockshed AO polish. Anyway, 10 days got me a really nice mirror polish on this load of mixed agate and jasper. Here's a pic of the whole lot. Notice I used a huge amount of smalls too.....Mel

you got a nice shine on those now. I cant help with the Rockshed A/O polish. I ordered 5 pounds from there over a year ago when I was using rotaries and then I switched to the lot-o shortly after so at 1/2 teaspoon per week I may have 10 years of running non-stop before I need more polish.

So many gorgeous stones! The orange one at the bottom is my favorite though. I've had a little bit of a hard time with my ao from therockshed on picture jasper, but everything else has shined up beautifully (except the lighter pieces of amazonite I've done recently)

Persistence paid off ! Nice bunch of shine there. The AO I'm using now was purchased last year so I can't help there either. Hopefully it hasn't changed, I'm getting low. If I had to double my rotary time I'd be waiting a month for polish.

I ran back through my notes and noticed I had changed one thing I forgot. I was having trouble with the 110/220 eating up my UV-10 barrels too fast and making holes in the bottoms so, I had cut that run down to three days instead of my usual 5-7. Figure it could be that the 110/220 had not broken down enough to prep my rocks for prepolish and that the scratches left by the fine grind were too deep for the prepolish to remove properly. I used to run a 500 stage so did not have to worry about that but hopefully that was part of my problem too and can be fixed.
You know, when you get older it's good to take notes so's you kin remember what ya done but its even better if'n you remember to read the damn notes...Mel

Those turned out nice... I just switched to the UV-10 for everything but the initial stage and I'm real happy with it. Still learning though. Good call on taking notes,I need to do that.

Nice ones Mel...I found that with my vibe that if I do a couple tsp.of borax in with the polish, it makes it shine faster...John

I like the batch. One day I will start to take notes . I have being using my very foggy mine to keep records. I like the size of the material and the shine .
