Orrum, I've never slabbed the material. It came to me already slabbed. But the grain is so perfectly preserved I'm sure orienting it is like cutting actual wood to get different grain appearances. Tony will no doubt be able to answer your question when he starts cutting those "little" pieces.
The true lapidary artist who gave me the material carved amazingly life-like owl figures, orienting the grain as feathers. They were wonderful.

Wow I can see a owl made from that! Great idea, I just dont have a imagination for that. I can sure borrow others ideas though. Hmmm saw out a owl shape and vibe tumble it maybe?
