Another slug of cool agates! Those close shots really show how varied the inclusions are in the Zapatas. And those mini fortifications are really cool.

The inclusions in moss and plume type agates jump at magnification. Hope i can get enough depth of field to see the inclusions down in your Montanas. Gonna experiment with old 6M camera vs 20M point and shoot and see if i can get more mag. At 20X the 6M starts to fuzz. But it takes 3 pics/sec(at 6M). And this 3/sec speed is what costs. The newer Nikon 7000 takes 6 frames per second. So over ten years they have gone from 3 to 6. Tells me it is a challenge to make a digital camera process fast. Useless option for rock photography.ha Lest you live in Montana and are taking pics of rock slides, hopefully from the side. It took 3 months to get the rocks off of me. I-40 in Tennessee.

Agreed, but your are revealing that beauty. Rich When i was a kid my Dad got me a tumbler and it came with moss agate. It mesmerized me. Having lived in the land of boring granite and fractured crystalline quartz, I could not believe that so many patterns and colors could be in a rock. Nothings changed.

Those are magnificent images. You improve your product every single step of the way. I dint care what the product is you maximize the output. I an envious. This is amazing. Every single image kills me. This one took the additional step to bend my mind My mind if officially bent.

Used to go to a barber shop as a kid and it had full wall mirrors in front of you and behind the barber. You could see for miles and miles and miles and miles. Mind bender

We went to the very same barber, 3000 miles apart.
Carl's Barber Shop in Covina had the same mirrors. That was the only reason I would allow a haircut! I wish the glass was not green. Then we could have seen hundreds of miles!

Any closer shots would need a X-ray . If you get tired of the Canadian cold head down to Lake Falcon riverrock. Just do not go in August like i did. That place is a bakery.

Very crisp photos dude. You are getting damn close to what we used to do with film. The naysayers swore that digital would never reach the level of film. Oops.
What was your speed at f-16? Are you capable of going to f-22? Your depth of field looks really good all the way across so you must spend a little time squaring things up too.
You are going to fool around here and get me all fired up about photography again and my monthly stipend is going to be flying down the netways. Oh poop. Jim

That is the limit Jim. f16. In full sun it is 1/20 for dark rocks and 1/80 for yellow/orange coral and up to 1/125 for bleach white. Since i am shooting little slabettes i put them on clay and prefocus. Then level them till they seem in equal focus on all 4 corners. The fact they are flat sure helps w/the focus/DOF. Iso at 200(lowest ISO on this camera). Then final focus. The Vivitar macro goes down to f2.8. That is useless. I wish it went up to f32 for depth of field. Why make a fast f2.8 macro. I guess for moving shots and low light ? Thanks for noticing. Hope you get your artillery out and start at it.
