Hello, friends! I think you agree with me, it's about time to start a new creation. And, the creation I was just starting to work at, is about time: it's a clock. A wall clock, more precissely, which would also have a pendulum. For this, I bought a wall clock which I plan to dismount and use its mechanism. And I also started to work to the face of the clock. This face is going to be octagonal. I drew firstly a template on paper. I could have done it in a CAD software, but building it by classical means (ruler and compass tool) was fun: Then I stuck this paper template on a copper sheet (a bit over 1 mm thick) which would be the face of the clock. Using the template, I drew the octagon and also punched the minutes and the center of the octagon. The minutes would be some brass nails which would also fix the copper face on a wood support (that's what the small holes are for): As you can see in the picture above, the main hours (12, 3, 6, 9) won't be marked by brass nails , but by some slim cabs embedded in the copper face. For the moment I finished two of them. Here are some close ups: That's all for the moment, next steps are making the other two cabs and then cutting the copper face in order to host these cabs securely. Thank you for looking, Adrian

I'm already loving it. I can't wait to see the coming steps. I have questions, but I'm sure I'll find out the answers as you go along. Just one thing, though- the bloodstone looks like it blends in an awful lot. Maybe something with more contrast will work better. (There's always a critic, isn't there? But, I had to say something... )

Sounds like a great project to me Adrian, especially knowing how you always use your artist, lapidary and engineering abilities for exciting end results.

Thank you Tela and Don!
Tela, what made me choose the bloodstone was exactly that reddish stripe having the copper's color. But I tend to agree about not using it in the clock though, and this is because of the shape. I like more the green cab's shape, and mixed shapes won't be a good idea probably for the final look of the clock.

If this creation turns out to be even half as good as your last ones it will be sure to be an amazing piece of art. You make great pieces and i look forward to seeing this one progress.

The more angular shape is better, and mixed shapes would not work as well

Hello everyone, Here's an update. I made four more cabs with the same shape as the green one. Here they are: A greenish brecciated jasper (Stone Canyon like): A Poppy jasper: A Leopard jasper: An unknown spotted rock (just a bit softer than the other rocks but still took a good polish): Here are the cabs just as I plan to set them on the octagon. I'd rather use the four cabs I just made and not the green cab I made firstly. I think the patterns fit better to each other. Whatcha think? I was also asking Sisi, but she remained silent. She knows her rights, doesn't she? : Thank you for looking, Adrian
