I will be going away for 6 weeks for work very soon so i spent the last three days at the carving table and came up with three new jade pieces. All these pieces are just done the rough shaping and have had a little bit of hand shaping with the diamond files but still need lots of sanding and of course the final polish. The two green ones are almost matching his and hers hooks from a very nice deep green Polar jade. This material is very solid and has a great ringing tone when the jingle together. I usually make much more solid and substantial pieces than the "hers" size and was getting nervous during the final shaping and hand filing but it has proved very strong and could probably go much thinner if i was so bold. The white and green material was a gift so i am not sure of it's origin but it is a fairly dense jade and the white part is softly translucent and glows better in real life than in the pics. The large black spots are softer and present a challange when shaping and will be even tougher when i polish. Looks like i am getting tired and the pics came out a little soft. If i get ambotious tomorrow i will reshoot them or just repost when i am done the final sand and polish of these.

Are you sure those are not molded ? Those are phenomenal works, can't imagine the process. The translucency of that green jade is fine.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. I have been working hard on my latest creations to try to get the lines as smooth and continous as i can so that the overall efect is a nicely flowing piece. It as always dfficult to get a straight or continously curved line with a fast spinning round bit but i am learning some tricks to make it work how i want it to. I spent a bit of time trying to orient my sketch of the small hook to get as clean and pure of jade as i could in it without any dark spots or flaws and am really happy with how that one turned out. I have been hand sanding and should polish soon and will post them again when they are complete.

Gorgeous carvings, sampson! The his and her BC polar jade hooks are stunning. Does the pretty green and white jade hook have any chatoyancy?

Your jade hooks are awesome! I attempted to create myself a jade hook a few years ago, not even close to the quality of yours, great work!
