My grandson has been bugging me for a big sapphire ring. Well, all my sapphire's are small so he settled for lapis, which is also small. I have very few ring stones. This was so small, it almost intimidated me, but I got it done. The ring is a size 11 and the stone is probably 10x12mm. He's a big kid and he wanted it for his middle finger. My first ring. I think it came out pretty good.

Your grandson will love the lapis ring you made for him! I really like how you set it east-west. I pictured matching cufflinks for him, too.

Thats super Tela, you are a fast learner and are way ahead of me now:) Is that beaded stuff, the stuff from rio, something like this www.riogrande.com/Product/Sterling-Silver-Full-Bead-Wire--Dead-Soft/100910?Pos=3 I have some of the larger stuff but can't bend it without breaking. Can't seem to anneal it either???. If you have a quick link to the item you used could you pop it in a post pls. thats a great ring, it will be cherished. I am still working on my Lab rings for the girls, had a bad day yesterday making bezels. I have either mixed up solders or I suck. Unfortunatly I lean to the latter. I am going to go experiment now.

Hey Tom I used 1.5mm bead wire for the ring. Same as your link, just a different size. In case you don't know- here's a tip for annealing sterling silver-- coat your piece with black sharpie and burn it off. Sharpie burns of at abt annealing temp. I'll bet you just mixed up the solders. It's easy to do. And... for some reason, and I hear this in lots of places, the medium solder is harder to work with. Don't know why, but it is more tricky. Keep at it. It gets easier.

Thanks Tela,
I know about the sharpie trick just never did try it, just heated the silver till it glows red for about a minute then quench it? Works super great on copper. today was much better, I did not have the solder mixed up but I must agree the medium seems harder to work with. I cranked the heat up abit and make things happen faster. Solder flows around the bezel nice with out opening it up. Thanks for the link:)

You make this look easy but I know better I fell for that in the wrapping section where I got lured in after looking at too many of your amazing posts. I really like this one and doing rings will open up a whole new spectrum of jewelry options for you. Chuck
