Looks to be a Variolite which is fairly common on Puget Sound beaches. The body of the stone is most likely basalt and the spherical shapes are possibly amphibole or feldspar.

I think it's fair to say that even those who have been involved in this hobby for years are still learning new things all the time. I know I am....but that's part of the fun. Welcome to the boards, by the way. Are you located in WA State?

Camano Island is a beautiful place to call home that is for sure! Both Camano and Whidbey are a real rock-hunter's paradise. I don't know if you're into jade or not, but if you are, Camano's an excellent place to find it. Both Nephrite and Jadeite. This is a good time of the year to comb the beaches too. The winter and early spring storms bring in a lot of new rocks to find.

Welcome msmarbi . Couple things. Cool lookin' rock you found. It would be interesting to see inside. If you don't have a saw start looking through this forum and you should be able to find somebody close. Also, you may want to introduce yourself (unless you already did.) on the members page. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/board/13/visitors-members

Hi David. Agreed it would be interesting but don't have a saw. For now just enjoying it as is in rock garden. The dry picture doesn't do it justice as it isn't gray but has a violet tint.
Will stop by and say hello. So far just been lurking and absorbing.
