Its been six months since I started digging for color in this one. So about 3 weeks ago I decided that I had found all the color there is and started to put a creature on it. Here was the plan As usual, things don't go as planed and the left wing crumbled away. So instead having the wing come all the way down to the fire, I needed a body. After a week of sanding, was nearly there before attempting my biggest fear (the head) So today, I finally got close to the finishline (still needs a bit more sanding around the head and final polish) and took it for a walk with the dogs to try to get a feel for angles and light to capture this thing in a picture. After looking at the pictures, I realized that the FA face has a natural face on its own. Also took a video to show the colors better, but don't know how that works here Best regards, Kurt

Outstanding rainbow serpent carving, Kurt! Looking forward to seeing the piece after you touch it up a little, although I don't think the serpent's head needs touching up. The vid works and thanks for posting a link to it so we could see the colors in the fire agate.

Thank you Girls. Its a complete freehand, so was a lot of fun working it. The hardest part will be deciding which way to wear it (fire or creature to the front).

Amazing Kurt, truly amazing the way you can recover when something goes bad and I love the baby head. I want to be like you when I grow up.
Do you do all the sanding and polishing by hand? You said that you sand on your commute but even power sanding on agate takes a long time. What sandpaper do you use? You have probably told us before but my memory is short sighted now days. Jim

Jim No need to exaggerate Jim. You still have it, just takes longer these days. I use wet and dry Magpie Brand, that looks like to come from Korea. Its the easiest and cheapest in the market here. Recovery is no problem as long as you are not bound on a certain definite outcome. Kurt

Another great one Kurt - you do an excellent job at reading the stone to maximize its potential. Top shelf. Cheers

Dragons are my favorite!! I can't think of a better use for fire agate. That's a beautiful little creature you brought to life!

Yupp, like the others said, nice work Kurt, loogs great. That is a tough material to work with and get the detail and figure that you did. Another masterful creation.
