I'm a newbie. I've just carved this flower from onyx using my Dremel. I'm trying to learn how to polish now.

I was shooting for a flower! lol

It's onyx and translucent. I'm thinking of fixing a light source behind it.

I might put a different type of stone in the middle for some contrast and so you can tell it's a flower. lol

My photography isn't all that good. It has a little shine on it, but I'm trying to teach myself the carving arts, so I'd like to try for a glossier shine.

I thought it resembled a starfish too. I like the 6 petals, but I might need to nix them next time because of the starfish resemblance. lol

If you are sanding with Paper, you can skip several steps and go from 600 grid straight to 1500 or 2000. If you got 3 or 5000 paper, thats pretty much as high a gloss you will get.

I think I saw starfish because it was raised - if you made it concave, the mind would read flower. It's pretty either way
