went on my trip to franklin NC. found 29.4 cts of sapphire but largest one was a cocoon crystal (double) that weighed 3.4 cts. it was fun though.
i found the BEST GEM in all of franklin...it's called FAT BUDDIES BBQ and the brisket is AMAAAA-ZING!!! if you go there, you HAVE to try it. the babyback ribs were good also but the brisket was so special i found myself wishing i had forgone the ribs and just got more brisket!
i also went to the ruby city rock shop?? downtown on main st?? it was a nice rock shop but they are struggling. there is basically one guy that runs it and he has 2 employees. cash flow is not what it use to be. he mentioned he wants to have a "half off sale" on everything in the store this season. they have some damn nice amethyst cathedrals. wish i could get in on that!! but i'm sure he is willing to negotiate a bit and has a pretty decent selection of rocks and loose gems.
the thing that MADE MY TRIP was, the rocvk shop had an oil cooled saw and i was able to get a rock cut that i found like 6 years or so ago at crater of diamonds that i have been trying to get cut forever. he ended up giving me a break and cut 10 cuts for $60!! the woman at cowee mine wanted $25 PER CUT!! this rock was purple chalcedony about the size of a dinner plate and about 3 inches thick with some druzy on the ends and a little throughout. i showed it to local CoD rock shops and they said they have never seen anything like it come from the park!! i will try again to add some photos but i am very happy how it turned out. if you go to franklin...please support ruby rock shop downtown. he was a great guy and i hate to see his business struggle...especially when other places were such a rip off price wise.
i'm not the best photographer and taken with my iphone, so the real thing looks way better. also, i notice photos look more bluish. slabs are definitely purple.
