Here are some things that I got at the Santa Clara Valley Show in San Jose.
This is a variety of the Chinese Writing Rock pattern that doesn't have the typical figures.

This is a neat piece of whatever:

These next three photos are of what the dealer called Christmas Jasper. I have never heard of it. He said he thought it was from the Black rock Desert in Nevada???

This one the dealer said was Dumortierite. He had it analyzed at the show and the gemologist/geologist said it was 90% Quartz and 10% Corundum. In very thin slices it is translucent blue in some spots. This is a thick end cut so I'm going to slice it real thin to see if I can get the transparent blue to show up.

This is a thin slice of Stinking Water Plume that I'm going to back with Basanite to get more contrast in the plumes.

A Condor Agate end slice.

For the last couple of years when I saw Dave Clayton (Jade Carver) at the show I said I needed a special shape for a carving wheel. When I carve pieces with grooves the only wheel available was a "V" shape. I wanted a concave shape so the sides of the grooves would be curved. I couldn't find any of this shape anywhere. Dave said he would contact his manufacturer and see if they could make this kind of wheel. Well they could and did make some like I needed and I spied them at his booth this year. They do have a problem because they said they could only make them with a 1/4" shaft. All my carving handpieces only take up to 1/8" shaft. Dave had a solution in a special Foredom handpiece that is designed for 1/4" shafts but he sold the last one just before I got to his booth. Dang! He did order one for me though. Here are some photos of the carving wheels that I got. A bit pricey at $20 each but for a special order this isn't too bad.
