Diane, what size is the Gear Box? Everything I've found used with separate garage is too long for what I want.

For sure Jean, I need to sell a bunch of jewelry to even be able to get to Quartzsite next year. Definitely not gonna leave the generator unprotected.

I think its a 23 foot- correction its 31 feet long you got to drive it like its a big rig and make wide turns or else you run over curbs - can't be in a hurry to go places with this one Hubby wanted the gearbox so we can take the bike (soon to be trike) along for site seeing the places we camp at. And he cannot bear to leave it outside so the separate garage was a must.

also its over 13 feet tall so you gotta know whats up ahead before you get there. Makes our Dodge Ram look small!

[quote author=" drocknut" Yeah, fearless Tell that to Gypsy and my knuckles as they turn white while towing into the wind. [/quote] Into the wind is just slowing you down and eating up the gas. It's the side winds you need to watch out for.... that and 18 wheeler bow- waves.

Dianne (Drocknut) if your equalizing hitch has a place for a sway control I would spend the $100 or so and add it. It makes a huge difference. I saw a nice hitch at the RV dealer last time that said "no sway control needed" and had no place to connect one (they use a small trailer ball usually). The point of any safety device is to avoid mishaps not add one after you jack knife or otherwise loose control. Our first trailer was an old 23' trailer and pulled easily behind a 3/4 ton truck. We upgraded to a new 26' with slide out that weighed more than the truck (probably by quite a bit after my wife loaded the "essentials"). I almost lost it when I came to a curve a little too fast and hit the brakes too hard. I added the sway control before the next trip and no more issues. I don't want to scare you but I want you to be safe as possible.

Thanks John, I appreciate hearing the voice of experience. I believe the hitch I have does have a spot to add a sway bar. I'd have to look again but I know the service guy at the dealership said they could be added later. I asked about putting them on it when I got the outfit but the service guy told me to try it without them first to see if I wanted to add them. I wonder if just putting one on would work better than none. I was wanting to get an Equilizer hitch but they didn't carry them and the ones I saw online were way more expensive. The dealership gave me a discount on the one I got plus free installation. It's a good heavy duty hitch, not just a ball.

Nice rig, Dianne. Funny, but we are in the process of looking at trailers ourselves, but a smallish toy hauler type. That looks like it will do you well.

We had a friend follow us on a trip with her new to her old 19' single axle trailer behind a Toyota Forerunner. Over 50 mph and wheels were lifting off the ground. When we got home I sold her my equalizing hitch with sway bar and installed and adjusted it for her. No more problems. Your truck is made to haul a lot more than her Toy and your trailer is probably lighter and dual axle so maybe you will be OK.

She has a tile floor and dogs have trouble navigating slippery tile, at least until they get used to it.

Good job on the "home selection". I believe that the Jayco is one of the very best trailers out there. The good news is that they are built to handle thecooler weather. The bad news is that no travel trailer will work in a "zero degree" environment. Winter will either break the bank for propane or you'll have to head back home to Arid-zona. I am sure you already know this and have your winter plans made already.
Where did you buy the Jayco? Missoula?
Best of luck on the roads! If you can avoid the windy travel days, do so. As stated previously, the side wind will get you in trouble quicker than anything else. Sit tight until the blow is over, and be safe...not sorry.

Very cool rig! I've been dealing with several contractors over work on the house for about five weeks now and living a simpler life in a travel trailer is starting to look pretty good about now *L*.....Mel

Congrats on the new camper. It's a dandy!
ahhh, if I were 20 years younger Montana is where I would be! I spent a year near Anaconda when I was in my teens and fell in love with the big sky country!

John, glad you were able to get her set up. My trailer has dual axles so it's got more stability. I just take it slow and easy going down the road. I'm also going to avoid traveling on really windy days. Phil, Scott is right, no carpet on this floor, I think it is linoleum. I put down several throw rugs and her nails are clipped although they need to be done again soon. My mom has linoleum in her kitchen and Gypsy was fine with that but then again there was food involved in there. She did slide around when chasing the ball in there but walking was no problem. I have a friend who has bigger dogs and said one of them was scared of walking on the floor in their trailer because it moves more than one in a sticks and bricks house. I think Gypsy will be fine as soon as she gets used to it. Yes, Grizman, bought it in Missoula at Rangitsch Brothers. So far it's done well and it's been in the 20's and 30's with a pretty good wind blowing. Don't think I want to test it out when it's below zero. Montana is home but it does get a mite cold here sometimes. I don't have any definite plans as such but will probably go visit down south come winter. Guess I'm joining the snowbird crowd. Thanks Mel, I'm sure you will survive the contractors and enjoy the house when it's all said and done. Thanks radio. Heck you aren't that old. Anaconda is not too bad although it is pretty depressed as far as the economy goes these days.
