I had this cab in my etsy shop... A woman was trying to buy it and couldn't. Paypal refused the sale. Here is what they told her To comply with government regulations, this transaction has been declined. Amount: $XXX Transaction ID: XXX Seller: tela formosa Unfortunately, we are not able to complete this particular transaction. This decline is specific to this transaction and does not affect the use of your PayPal account. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For more information, see Government regulations and policies. So, after freaking out and wondering what the hell was going on... I surmised that the gubmint didn't like the words "full fortification". I changed the title and she was able to purchase it with no trouble. Now, I am on yet another flippin' list because of a really pretty rock with a full fortification pattern.

Odd. The reference to "see Government regulations and policies." seems pretty vague. Like where to go look. Almost seems like paypal it trying to be vague. Odd.
I wonder where there is more information on this.

That was the full text that she got. A friend and I started googling and found many references to this subject. It seems it is a fairly new thing that paypal is doing- in conjunction with NSA, I'm sure. We found that there were cases like mine where the sale was flat out refused and some which were put on hold and reviewed. I wish I had been reviewed, then they would see it was just a rock.

We are living in absurdly ridiculous times! Just few years ago I used to sell furniture hardware on ebay. When I would try to list simple round Chippendale style brass keyhole escutcheons eBay would block the listing and and send me a message that I am forbidden to sell firearms or firearm components on eBay. Other shaped furniture keyhole escutcheons always posted fine. It was just the round ones that their screening software falsely identified as being firearm related. Also I learned this past week (and apparently this has been going on for a couple of years) all new computers have GPS or another type of triangulation tracking software installed so the Shovernment can track the location of the computer user of your computer. You can turn the GPS function setting off manually but just like the built in camera at the top of your laptop screen, the shovernment can turn it back on remotely without you knowing it. By the way, absolutely beautiful fortification Agate cab!!!!! Larry C.

As for the camera, the Dumb-ernent and clever hackers can install malware on your computer and activate the camera remotely. They can see your smiling face and see whatever else (uh-hum!) that your camera is pointed at. I had a piece of black electricians tape over mine ever sine I saw the news-doc on that one.

I only found about a dozen references, and some were cases like Cuban items being sold internationally. Others referred to the buyer. I did not see any that seemed to be related to words in the listing.
I think it is pretty pointless to make silly postings misspelling government or to speculate on NSA without any facts. (Unless the foregone point is just to bash government.) Like NSA would even block sales - they track stuff. They would totally let the sale go through and then quietly track. Not their style to call attention to their presence.
For my money, this is PayPal's lawyers advising them on how to avoid any liability for being in any transaction that might later be a potential issue -- and some poorly-programmed software. IMO, it is much more a PayPal issue than a government issue. I mean, if it was "big security state" they would get Etsy to block the listing - not PayPal from blocking the payment. ... and PayPal would be able to refer to specific laws and policies, rather than use the bullshit instruction "see government rules and regulations."
Think it through. Just don't make knee-jerk reaction. That's boring.
It is a potentially troubling issue, but the logic-leaps, and intentional misspelling does not help the civil dialog much.

I tried to find the government regulations at Paypal and couldn't. But, PP clearly is following some government regulation. The sale would not go through until I changed the words. So, I think it did have something to do with the words. I mean, they do look suspicious. There is probably a master list made up by the Gov- NSA probably- that PP is using. It really is not a stretch to draw that conclusion. It is just our post 9-11 world.

In my opinion the real silliness on this issue belongs to Pay Pal and the government for being so ridiculous. All of this DHS and NSA nonsense could have been avoided in the first place if the government had done their job by securing our borders, vetting immigrants properly, and enforcing visas. If you don't agree that is fine. If you find us venting our frustration at the situation by intentionally misspelling "government" boring and silly that is fine too. No one is making you read it...or are they? Larry C.

Firstly that cab is beautiful and your buyer is surely very happy with it. I tend to agree with deb and think it was likely PP and their legal department in response to some government regulation. However there is an uncomfortable amount of surveillance of ordinary citizens going on these days. It's all in the name of anti-terrorism, but the sheer amount of data collected tempts abuse. Freedom comes with a certain amount of risk. I prefer to take my chances and preserve my privacy.
