Howdy folks, Finally finished another batch of tumbles. Mostly all Chevron Amethyst from South Africa. I really dislike doing crystalline quartz as it's mostly chippy and a royal pain, but the kiddies love the purple no matter how it turns out. I apologize for the weird exposure. I had to recharge my battery and by the time I was done there was not much light left to take pics by. A few extra stones I threw in to top off the load:

What a great batch! I have to say, I really like the "few extra stones" the best, I wanna bite them!

Nice batch. I think it was worth the trouble.

I feel your pain on the Chevron. That stuff probably has the highest reject rate when coming out of my rotary. I through them back in for another week of coarse grit, only to reject them a week from now. If your stubborn, you can get them perfect, but they are pretty small by the time you do.

I like the extras pile too. I have the same feelings about amethyst as the rest of you seem to. I did some once but I tried to get them perfect so they took forever and were quite small by the time they were done.

It is a shame that the banded amethyst is such a difficult material to tumble. It is popular with the kids and adults too. Your shine really shows in the extras pile. Nice job.

Nice batch, that second group is pretty interesting. Purple is requested most often from folks I give tumbles to than any other color. Blue is second.

Yeah, you know I have a great love for agates and poppy jaspers but whenever I take batches of kids out to the shop, first thing they grab are quartz. They love amethyst, rose quart, smoky or even the clear quartz, all things I hate tumbling. Only thing they like better is tiger eye, another material I hate tumbling *L*. I have a bunch of that I just got cheap at the Fredericksburg show that I have to whack up and tumble next.....Mel

Great looking stuff. I can tell when the quartz is done frosting and chipping because I can't find it any more, it's all ground away.
