Howdy folks, Last Wednesday I had me some free time so I went over to the Eagle Pass rockpile to hunt around for a bit. Must have gone through a couple of tons of gravel but the quarry still seems to be in kind of a dead zone. Used to get a couple of five gallon buckets of Rio Grande Agate right off the top but this was my lowest yield ever from this stuff. Anyway, a few pics just cause this has been the only hunt I've had any time for lately......Mel Saw sharpener rock, Devil's Toenails: Swirly Rio Grande rhyolite: Brecciated jasper of some sort, kind of ehhh: The only Rio Grande Moss I found. Least it's a red'un: Rio Grande Poppy which is actually orbicular ( spherulitic) rhyolite: More of the same in different colors and patterns:

That Rio Grande rhyolite group looks pretty nice. It's funny how the devil's toenails in Eagle pass seems to mostly be in yellow matrix while the matrix on the toenails I pick up in Zapata is mostly black or orange.

Carlos We get the orange in the Eagle pass pile too but no black matrix. You ever cab the black or have a pic to post? I'll bet that would be pretty cool. We had a black matrix material I used to collect in Commiefornia down the coast towards Malibu. It was a form of Coquina called PT. Mugu Shell Rock and instead of oysters, it had tons of tiny clam shells included....Mel
