Uh, no, not that personal, lol!
Have been doing a lot of walking lately (2 1/2 hours a day, you could say my new addiction), so took my camera with me the other day, and snapped a few pics along the way.
We were talking about ocotillo a little while back, so first up is a large Madagascar Ocotillo (Alluaudia procera) in a nearby neighbor's yard. (To right side of driveway.) This sucker is tall, maybe 25 feet?
Flowers at top. Yes, it is a euphorbia, related to poinsettias. Milky sap.
The multiple trunks are a good six inches in diameter.
I like the interesting striped look the lines of paired leaves give it. Could've put some cheaters on it. It was big enough, but I don't have any.
This one is in my front yard. Leaves about 3/4 inch long. Most of the is plant is leafless right now, but showers last week have encouraged leaves to come out on some stems already. Spiney, yes.
Here's a trunk that has some advanced leaves. Succulent leaves store water, but they'll drop off in dry conditions so as not to lose water from the trunk. Stem to left of pic has smaller leaves just starting out.
This is a view to the east Tuesday morning, weather threatening and windy. Peak at left with antenna farm is San Miguel Mtn. Lower (closer) hill in center is Mother Miguel Mtn.
Antenna farm, 2565 feet high.
Sweetwater Reservoir, with Mother Miguel Mtn behind it (1527 feet).
This composite pic taken last March. Much greener then. This view is from a little further south.
Can you guess what made these prints? Bet jamesp can.
Loong fingers...
A good sized animal, tracks about as big as a medium-sized dog. Would rather see this type of evidence of them, than dead, half-eaten lizards in my pond. And I have no desire to examine their scat up close and personal, like someone I know does, lol.
For @shotgunner... Like this duck boat? Been neighbors with this guy for a few years now, would say hi to him when I saw him, that's about it. Met him for the first time on Tuesday, told him I liked his boat (great conversation starter, BTW). He hunts duck out at Salton Sea in season, has a black lab for retrieving, and makes duck sausage. He and his wife seem like great folks, will have to get to know them better.
Some more dingleballs. These aren't as hard as the ones off the liquidambar, kinda soft and fuzzy
This is a sycamore tree, AKA, "plane tree" for whatever reason.
And a little color to end the show. These are epidendrum orchids. These are even lower maintenance than the sarracenias, IMHO.
They can take quite a bit of direct sun, but not when the temp goes over 100 degrees, the leaves get scorched. Supposed to be that hot next week. Whatever happened to spring this year? We went straight to summer, lol.

itsa 'coon.
Need to meet up with that neighbor and hunt the sea with him. Please get to know him better!
Love the HUUUUUGE Alluaudia - wowzers.
That's cool. I just got some epidendrum cuttings from an old and good friend. Purple like yours too. Potted them up, hoping they root. Pics later.

If you rub the scat between finger and thumb you can determine it's age by the level of greasiness. just kidding Back yard pond owners that slush up their water to call the goldfish for feeding make a mistake. A coon will do the same thing and catch/eat the goldfish. Dogs chasing a coon into a swamp is a big mistake. the coon will swim to them once in deep water and climb on the dog's head and drown them. They are clever creatures. Had a bulldog that would tackle then kill them. But one coon can fend off 3 hound dogs as it is a losing battle baying the coon. They get into stuff around here all the time.

Euphorbia, best grown in soil from Uranus. It's all about the aliens.

Euphorbia, best grown in soil from Uranus. It's all about the aliens. Not my anus. Your anus. That's the alien component.

Let's let Jean decide which anus. She could do a soil sample and sniff test. And a core test -----on you.

I'm sure either one of your anuses (anii?) would be just fine. How 'bout you just toss a coin? James, since you are the one that brought this up, you call it.

Scott, James is wanting to send poop through the mail!! Tell him why that is wrong on so many counts...
(Actually, Kaiser is sending me one of their little test kits soon, so guess I'll be guilty, too, lol!)

I never would have thought that, Jean I figured your elevation was much higher so your not very far from the Ocean? I double checked the elevation - 340 feet. Within 20 - 25 miles is considered coastal plain, pretty flat, but smaller hills and canyons. Head farther east, the elevation goes up, and the mountains get more rugged.
I just checked the distance on AcmeMapper, and I am 14.7 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The farther from the ocean, the less cooling effect (or warming during cold spells) you get from it. Supposed to get into the low 100 degrees next week, but it will be another Santa Ana - it's dry heat!

OMG I'm still laughing about the stool sample. Nice stool James. Oh and the pics are nice Jean. My Magician buddy used to carry pill bottles with a tiny stool in them. Handed them out as stool samples. Great joke. Especially at assisted care homes and around old folks. Sit at a restaurant and ask the waitress if she wants to see your stool sample as you hold it towards her with just the top of the pill bottle showing. I had a waiter ask if it was painful to pass.
