Estate sales with lapidary do not pop up very often around here and when they do everything sells quick. This one was appt. only and my appt. was two hours after it started and almost all of the (very nice) equipment was sold already. When I asked about rocks the worker said there really were not any rocks but in my searching I opened a wooden barrel and found it full of rocks so I quickly took them all.
Its probably a good thing the slab saw was sold for $800 or else it would have probably came home with me. I think in total I gave around $125 and there were a few things I did not take pictures of.
Anyway here's the pics and I need I.D. help with some so if you know them please comment.
Brand new lortone QT12 tumbler and barrels
2.5 pounds of large Lake Superior agates (average 4 ounces each)
no idea what this is but it has a pocket in it with green druzy crystals on one side and clear larger crystals on the other side.
5 pounds of poorly tumbled apache tears that I will be re-tumbling
rhodochrosite
this is labeled jade but I have never seen jade so I have no clue to location or quality
hickoryite and a 4 pound chunk of picture jasper to cut
unknown agates
this looks like calcite but there is a large cylindrical area missing shaped like a ribbed fossil?
misc. slabs and a piece of pet wood
I would sat this is a leverite (leave where you find it) but I keep wondering why it was in with his collection. any clues?
And the day got even better when I hit a craigslist ad in the evening for this Star Diamond trim saw with nice step pulleys, motor, good blade and works good. The only thing I will do is add a blade splash guard then put it back up for sale. The only reason I got this before anyone else is that it was listed as a "wet saw for tile" and din not have a picture in the listing.
this was my deal of the day at $20
Thanks for looking!
