Long time no see, rock people! Summer is upon us in the Great White North, and what a summer it will be. I got a 23% raise at work last month and to celebrate, my wife let me buy an ATV! After days of research and mind changes I settled on the new Polaris Ace. It's based on the Sportsman, but built like a one man side by side. Hence the name Ace. It has a 12 inch longer wheel base than a Sportsman, but is still 48 inches wide. That's vital for me to get out to Ferry, AK where I find blood stone and do some gold mining. The longer wheel base, the rear mounted engine, and the lower seat height makes it incredibly stable on steep hills. Last weekend, the day after I got it, we took it out to an old coal strip mining area that is now a playground for off road vehicles. It easily got to 45mph. I rode for 5 hours and never got sore. I'm supposed to be at work right now, but with the summer slow down we need to cut back on compensation. I bravely volunteered to take a long weekend so I could play with my new machine and go gold mining with some friends.

Thanks everyone! Audrey will definitely be getting a small ATV just as soon as she can drive better. She was trying to crash into cars in the neighborhood in between pictures lol. I already forgot to pic up rocks on my first trip. I grabbed one nice piece of coal with some amber and put it in the bed. I then went down an outrageously steep hill and lost it. The area we are going to tomorrow has thunder eggs, quartz crystals and amethyst along with a whole mess of minerals. Should bring back something good regardless of how the gold pans out.

That looks like a lot of fun. I always wanted a go cart when I was a kid. That sort of reminds me of a really cool go cart.

It was difficult to forgo 12 hour days for a weekend, but I took it for the team.
That little nerd makes me happier than anything. Just the other day she picked up a rock in the Lowes parking lot and said "Daddy wook! Die right!" Which is her awesome three year old way of saying diorite. She's always picking up rocks and asking what they are, and I always tell her what rock or mineral it is. She soaks up that information like a sponge. I need to make a video of her identifying rocks. Its cute as hell.
