Well, it's springtime, the weather is good and we have just a ton of work that needs to be done after a long, long winter. So, this morning we stole a few hours and went looking for rocks. Beats working, eh? Don't reckon it was worth an actual trip report, but took a few pics to share. Went to a place near a place we've gone before, to see if we could find anything. None of these "places" are in any guide book I've ever seen, this is all just exploring. We went in between here (looking East) and here (looking West) Had a little more snow this past winter than usual and we've had a fairly wet spring. This is about as green as it ever gets. Heck, there are even some flowers blooming. Hadn't been there but a few minutes when I found a little horny toad. This little guy was only about an inch and a half long. Stole his soul with a photo, and wandered on in search of purty rocks. A couple of in situ pics, just as they were found. Funny how sometimes you'll see a bit of color on the ground, and it turns out to be a fist sized rock. Found this guy, too. Not really sure. Crinoid "blossom"? Little bit of a horn coral? May post this up in the fossil subforum. The final haul. Heck, Cyndi even found a range goat horn. The bright sun really washed out the colors in that picture. So there are some dirty rocks. Got home, hosed off the worst of the dirt. In the next day or so I'll get them sorted out and post a few clean pics. There is actually some interesting stuff in there. Thanks for looking. Russ

Great pics but how did you erase the mountains from the "west" photo? You must have driven east a bit but not too far because I see the Big Horns to the east from here in Powell.
Have you hounded north and east of Lovell? I hear that the west side of the lake has some great rock but I have been talking with people that think every green rock is jade. Huge amounts of "I think" green basalt and serpentine (by SG testing) for sure. Jim

I wear waders in the spring when I go rock hunting. It seems to be a bit drier there. That second rock by the hammer is really cool!

Jim, good to hear from you. Yeah, we were east of Cody, if I'd turned a few degrees south when I took that east picture the Bighorns would have been showing. No mountains showing to the west because we were in kind of a depression right there. We've fooled around east of Lovell, but mostly south of the highway. That's on my list to get up in there-I'll get ahold of you and see if you'd like to go.
Dianne, thanks, it's always fun. Never know for sure what you'll find out there.
Jugglerguy, yeah that second rock is pretty cool. I hear you on the waders but you've probably had more moisture there already than we'll get all year.
I'll get some more pictures tomorrow. Sorted out a few rocks but ran out of daylight.
