The kids and I just finished our final batch of mixed rocks from the Rock Shed. We also threw in some Lake Michigan finds from last summer. We are starting to run low on product. Summer vacation could not come soon enough. Enjoy Quartz, Amethyst and other clearish stones (there is a type of agate to the lower left. I could not get a good pics but it has concentric banding) Lake Michigan finds (top one is part of an agate) Granite from Lake Michigan (or at least found on the beaches of Lake MI) Turtella. I love this stone but it is very difficult to polish Other Lake Michigan finds Not sure what all of these are but they took a really nice shine Misc. Misc. Misc. Misc.

wow, all the colors of the rainbow. wish I could touch them! All those blues! what is the blue stuff below the turetella? Did you find both that and the turretella on the beach? What does turetella look like before you polish it? a pleasure to look at these!

That's quite a variety! I like that pink one in the fourth picture from the bottom.

great variety of rocks. I hope your kids had fun. Its always a fun day when the rocks finally get done. I don't get over to Lake Michigan very much but the granites you picked over there look just like the stuff I have picked up Lake Huron at Lakeport state park. The blue speckled rock in the middle of you "other lake michigan finds" is my favorite wow, all the colors of the rainbow. wish I could touch them! All those blues! what is the blue stuff below the turetella? Did you find both that and the turretella on the beach? What does turetella look like before you polish it? a pleasure to look at these! Snowmom - Turritella agate is from Wyoming. It is fossilized snails in matrix. I cut some recently and its much easier to see the patterns in slabs form. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/65328/last-couple-days-cutting-16Chuck

Snowmom - I wish that I could find turtella in Michigan. The sky blue stones are Amazonite from the Rock Shed. However, you can find similar type of rocks in Michigan. I've seen some hash comprised of crinoids that looks really good. However, it is difficult to polish. Also, take a look at Chuck's (Drummond Island Rocks) Leland blue pics. You can find similar colors to Amazonite; however, it is very difficult to find and is only found in certain areas of the state. Also, welcome. It is good to have another person from Michigan.
Rob - thanks. Not sure what it is but it came out nice.
Chuck - I was not sure if that rock would polish. I put three larger ones in and it is the only one that took a polish. Do you recommend Lakeport State Park? I've really been itching to get out and find some new rocks.

I've really been itching to get out and find some new rocks. Lakeport is the closest place I have found from our area to do any decent collecting. Lots of granites but we also found quite a few fossils, a few petoskey stones and a couple decent pieces of Pudding stone there. Its worth the one hour drive and if all else fails its never a bad day at the beach with the kids anyway. Chuck

Hopefully I can find some time this weekend.

I think the blue and white ones are either sodalite or possibly denim lapis aren't they? Funny, amazonite always is green to me, but then again my wife says I am bit blue vs. green color blind? (not to mention "blue job" vs. "pink job" blind, LOL)

(not to mention "blue job" vs. "pink job" blind, LOL) Not sure. They came in a mixed lot from the Rock Shed. As for colors, I'm with you. I only know primary colors. Since it is inbetween, i had to take a guess.
