You are progressing along quite nicely..Binds look real good... Practice your swirls on some spare copper.. It is not a tense as when it is on the stone...Good Job ... John

Very nice! I see the beginnings of your own style coming out, too. The binding are looking good! And, the wrap is nice and tight on the stone.
I notice you have more tool marks on this one than the other ones. Do you know why? Is the wire harder? It's copper, right?
With the curls... make a small loop with the round nose and then hold it with your flat nose as you pull/guide the wire around the loop. You can do it tight or loose. Don't have a death grip on either end of the wire. As the curl gets larger hold just a small section at a time with the flat nose as you move the wire along its curved path. Did that make sense?

Thanks for the advice about the swirls, John. Yes Tela, there are more tool marks on this one. Still using the copper wire just poor technique on my part. I found that sometimes the liers slip off the wire so to compenstae that I used to much force when squeezing the pliers closed. I should put tape on the pliers. I see what you meant about the curls. I was using the wrong pliers. I was using chain nose instead of flat nose. Also I need to be more careful in keeping the binding wraps straight. I see in the pictures that they are on an angle. I need to slow down and be more careful. What do you think about bail pliers? Are they worth having? Maybe after the net wrap or twoo I will be reqady to try one with silver wire. Glad I bought a lot of copper. LOL Stu

Nothing wrong with copper. An easy mistake is to hold the tools too tight. Remember to let them do the work. Bailing pliers are excellent!! I DO recommend them. You can pick up a set on ebay pretty cheap and they are quite good enough since they aren't something you use all the time. But, for bails they are indispensable.
