Caught something out the corner of my eye as I was walking my garden area If you look close,can see its head They seem to like these houses too!! snuffy

I think they could get that fellow for laying in wait, lol. Or maybe he already committed the crime, and disposed of the evidence? Looks like a corn snake to me. Harmless fellow, unless you are a small bird or mammal.

Jean,we have called these chicken snakes all my life. In the old days,when everyone in the country had chickens,these would raid the nests.If the chickens were protected with chicken wire,the snake would crawl through the wire,swallow some eggs,couldnt crawl back through,and was terminated.I don't have chickens,so they don't bother me!

Back in days gone by, I checked a rabbit box that was tripped. Turned it up, pulled the door and a black runner snake was looking straight at me. I did not know I could run so fast. I ran a good hundred yards before I stopped and calmed down. From then on I was "very" careful about checking rabbit boxes. Never had a snake in one after that.

Will be fossil hunting in Montana next week,I get to visit with rattle snakes....Hope I still have my calm about them-LOL.. They seem to like the same country I hunt fossils at...Usually we make eye contact,he goes one way,I go another.....
