I know I've been woefully absent on here and I hate that I get that way; I've been buried under work and some volunteer projects at church for about 5 weeks and haven't had time to so much as look at a rock. rockroller (Roland) texted me this yesterday about a sale today in town. I know the guys that put it together so I dropped by this morning. I was surprised to find a lot of sphere makers, several saws and several reciprocating laps. I've been wanting a large flat lap to do bookends and slabs, and when the gentelman selling said if I bought a reciprolap and a sphere maker he'd cut me a great deal, I couldn't say no. The guy who built the sphere makers used only diamond, and the seller was willing to throw in a bunch of pads and connectors so I could start right away. I also picked up a fairburn, a fossil shrimp and a few queensland agates. I was fortunate to also run into Roland while I was there, it was good to say hi. OK here's the haul: I need to clean the rocking area in the garage, get caught up on the tumbling contest and get the new gear in use, but hopefully I can be more on top of rocking and less buried by work!

We tried making one but it was too small for the heads the machine has - marble size but the heads are too big - so I'm starting on a piece of obsidian that's about the size of a golf ball.
I can't wait to get the machine figured out and make some legit spheres!
I'm getting the year-overdue-for-cleaning garage space organized so I can get everything working.

What they said.
Been wanting a lap for slabs but 1- I have no room for it. 2- I can not justify the money for what few slabs I would work up. BUT I would have had a hard time passing up a deal like that.

I am excited for you. Thanks Scott, others have been PM-ing me to help as well. My first challenge is to get adequate cups for the size spheres I am able to make, which is, of itself, unclear. The guy I bought it from said marble size up to 3 or so inches. Tim showed me some nice cups but they are for much larger spheres than I was told this would make. I'm inclined to engineer something out of pvc that I can velcro these diamond pads to (I have them and they seem like a great option) but I need to get past this weekend and the trip with my son first. Any advice or suggestions welcome.
