haha, the shop is about 35-40 minutes away on the other side of El Paso. It's not close enough for me to go all the time. I hope to do more hounding, but with the husband's schedule right now it's kind of hard. The Army has him in and out of the field in prep for another deployment. His truck is a manual so I can't take it to these more remote areas and my little saturn Ion isn't up to it.

Nice slabs! I especially like the unakite. The lace is not crazy lace but rather Missouri Lace from Washington Co.Missouri....Me

lucky I don't have a shop here closer than 4 hours, half an hour away could be dangerous. I'd say you did very will in exercising restraint. Nice slabs!

I REEEEALLY want a malachite slab. It's probably my favorite rock. I am no where near skilled enough to work with it yet...but I can always admire it until I'm ready

Buy the Malachite slab AND cut it. There is no increase in skills needed. Because it is soft you must work more slowly. That is all. The discipline learned while working more slowly will translate into better cabs of harder materials. Think of it as a "skillz test" that will make you better all around.

They didn't have any malachite slabs there or I would have! The owner said he would email me when he got some. I just don't want to make a crappy cut!

Lovely slabs! Isn't it cool to finally go to a rock shop and be able to buy something for 'use'?? (Not that sitting prettily on my shelf isn't a darn good use.)

Hopefully I can work up something worth showing! I don't have an expandable drum/grinding wheel yet, so I'm glad to find out I picked up some softer pieces that I can work with a little easier!
