While in the White Mtn's over the weekend I thought I would detour to a place in Snowflake that makes coasters, signs and wine bottle holders with sandstone to see if he had any rough that I could pick up for @shotgunner. While there I was drooling over his saw collection. This one is not running yet, a bit expensive for the local power company to upgrade the lines. This is a cable saw of his own design, unfortunately I did not get to see it run. He was running low on the large pieces and did not want to sell any, but he did let me rummage through his scrap. This stuff makes cool spheres and it only takes about 40 min. Thx for looking. Tim

Can you get a shine on that sandstone, or a matt finish? The sandstone that I am familiar with still has the texture of sand, is highly porous and soaks up water like a sponge.
That looks like an expensive string of diamonds on that cable saw. Diamonds by the foot.
Darryl.

No shine for them unless you do the spray or brush-on. Here is a pic of some that I made a few years ago from the same materiel.

IMHO not every stone must "shine". What it must do is look great. Those spheres look great with the matte finish. Cabochons of Indian Paint Stone look great, but they never shine. Tim, I'd love to call that guy about having a pile shipped over. Or, if I could find the indian paint stone that is in Nevada, I'd use that. That seems to be a closely guarded secret.
