Wire wrapping is a lot harder than I anticipated it being, even for basic designs! I made my first attempt today. It would probably be a little easier with better wire, but I just went with what I could find at Hobby Lobby. 0604141634a by kradzyniak89, on Flickr

It's a good start! My first several ended up in the garbage. I love the shape of that cabochon! That's my new favorite shape.

Thanks! That's my first cab too! I made my own templates. I went on Microsoft Publisher and made a bunch of shapes, traced them onto a piece of plastic from a poster frame that broke and dremeled them out!

I was were you are not to long ago when I attempted my 1st wrap. I know what you are feeling. Your 1st wrap looks pretty good. I find that I can see things better after I photograph it than when I just look at it. There is no subjectivity in the lens of a camera LOL Keep on wrapping you will be amazed as to how much better and how much easier it becomes on the 2nd and 3rd attempt. I just did my 4th wrap and the difference is night and day. Plus we have some of the most friendly, helpful and knowledgeable wrappers on this forum. Now after having started wrapping I look at other peoples wraps in a more analytical way, always trying to reverse engineer what they have done in my head so I can try to recreate it myself. The best advice I can give from one newbie wrapper to another is go slow. Try to remember exactly how you position the plier and how much pressure you apply with each step in the binding process. If the first wrap in a binding isn't just right re-do it and try to remember exactly what you change in your technique. This way when you get it the way you like it you will know how to duplicate it again. I have been working with copper wire and I found that if you practice some of the basic steps with some scrap wire it helps when you need to do that step in an actual wrap. Photograph all of your wraps as you go its fun to see you have evolved as you get better and better. Stu

Thanks for the advice and compliments everyone! I already see some of what you guys mean, after doing the first one and figuring out the basics, I find myself looking at how I can cut stones for more interesting wraps or how to work different shapes.

Looks pretty good for a first or second, wrap either way it is a start and everything has to have a starting point, then the only way to go is up. Keep up the good work. Tammy
