Howdy folks, Well still taking pics of the Mexican jasper/rhyolite but here is an installment of the nodular Mexican agate types.....Mel A few examples of Mexican "Red Hots" also called Berrendo Nodules: Usually under 3 inches with tan exteriors. Tabasco Nodules. These had a green exterior which does not show well in the pic, are seldom over one inch and often geodes. Casas Grandes Nodules. Fine banding and mostly grays or pale purples. Often with green celedonite exterior Another types, Parcelas are very similar. Janos Agate, sommetimes called Rainbow Agate. These were off the market for years but now back on. The matrix on the rough has to be cobbed down foe sale the interiors are small and the matrix on these nodules can be six inches thick making for huge weights and much waste. Moctazuma Nodules. Small, usually under two inches, smooth or dimples gray to white exteriors, fine to broad banding in pastel colors. Agua Nueva Nodules. Comes in vein form too. Lots of golds, pinks and purples. Lots of eyes and moss with the fortifications. Mexican Coconuts/ Las Choyas Nodules. Round, dimpled or craters white exteriors, geodes or solids with crystals or banded blue agate inside. Trancas Geode. Often with swirly chalcedony, crystals, sometimes sceptered, thin cream to white to gray shells: Favorite of the buy it and cut it there booths at rock shows. Laguna Nodules, Variable, sometimes with moss, huge variety of colors, often rough exteriors. OK, wife is yelling at me to go to the gym and photobucket has gotten slow as Hell. Will do more later...Mel

Mel, where do you get all these great nodules? Out in the field? I've been putting together a Geode/Thunder egg/Nodule collection and have buying most of the material on ebay. I've put together a lighted display case and have been trying to stock it with all kinds of cool stuff. Great looking material you have there! - Bill G.

Bill, I have a crate or two of Mexican nodules I got off an old dentist who used to go to Chihuahua. I heard the story that he traded dental work for agate but he may have just bought it while down there. Anyway, if you can believe it, much of this material was his leftover seconds which he used to throw in a box and sell me for 50 cents to a dollar a pound. The Moctazumas he used to sell me for $2 per pound. I loaded up on enough to last me for all my remaining days and then some *L* and you would not believe some of the cabs I've cut from his leftovers.....Mel
