I did some photography for work today. I get the "ebay account" as well as my territory. So I started photog'ing the main product line for the ebay listings. The product line is "Captive Fasteners" and they make a clone of "PEM Fasteners" for the sheet metal and printed circuit board industries. The office manager graced me with a list of "our top fifty" parts and I figured we'd start with those to get ebay rolling. Setup took awhile and I only got one part imaged. Here is the first part: For those that care/know the lingo. It is a #8-32 "captive" nut. This nut is press fit into sheet metal of the same thickness as the "star" pattern, and then a #8-32 machine screw can be threaded into it. This image will allow me to make ads for about ten similar parts (each for different sheet metal thickness). We have over 2000 part numbers. Probably need 200 images to cover those. And then each of those parts with 5-10 qty levels. In a few months I could have 20-30,000 ebay adds! All of them "buy it now" so no listing fees.... It is a huuuuuge undertaking. But once finished will pay off for years to come. Thanks for looking.

rock'n Scott! do you work for the distributor or the manufacture? We are sole (territory guaranteed) distributor for this line in California. Our company has had this relationship since 1976!! The new boss bought the contract and is also adding 25 new product lines. He is letting me be entrepreneurial in that I make my own schedule and decide who to see when. I also am expected to contact the vendors and negotiate buys as well as the sales. I have already started to add clients for the original product line that the previous 38 years of sales had not captured. This because they did not even attempt to sell. They waited for the phone to ring. lol It worked due to the exclusivity. My job is to MAKE the phone ring! So far so good. The job has a solid base salary with uncapped commissions. Plus, the office is 2.6 miles from home and the territory is 20 mile radius, for now.

Tripod - given Light Box - probable
Tell us a little more about your equipment and setup?
Darryl.

Looks great. I visited a laser shop the other day seeking scrap and they press those into sheet. He showed me the machine that does it. Lot of industrial stuff on ebay. I need to list some large taps, dies, mill bits, drills many 1"-3". one of the yards I frequent have them in wood crates for 40 cents a pound. I have seen the melters pick them up at scrap price.

My next shoot is friday afternoon. I'll get re-setup and take setup shots. Then I'll describe all the techniques and tools. Anybody can do this. It's really simple. You need some equipment, a nice sunny day, and some patience for a little trial and error. Look carefully at the image above. See the lime/yellow spots in some of the highlights? I'll give a San Miguel Cerveza Negra to whomever knows why/what it is.

Um, reflection of your shirt? Well, it seems it was easier for you than for me. Usually in a studio setting there is no such paranormal activity. But my strobe was lacking a reflector and my shirt was bright colored. Took me a bit to sort that out... lol Jean, my girlfriend, I owe you a San Miguel Dark. Next time we meet me must each have one. 150FromFundy On Friday, I'll add the missing reflector, show the setup and describe how you can do the same for yourself. Darryl, the short story is, f16 got the job done. A tripod and a remote shutter release are required. Lightsource can be the sun (it's free!). This one was shot with the same setup, in sunlight. No tent was used as the sky was mostly cloudy. Please ignore the dust.

Scott, knowing your propensity for wearing articles of clothing that I can hear a block away (if I recall, you were wearing a shirt of a similar color in Quartzsite a few months back ), it wasn't hard at all to sort out... Okay, you owe me, amigo!
