I strongly suspect this was a test of your "secret weapon" for the competition. I have my white flag out. I am guessing you are using an expensive moon dust final polish ingredient you wondered about earlier. Kudos my friend. Will you tell us after you win :-)

I was not able to obtain the secret weapon. I was trying to get a sintered diamond wheel from Inland products to hog away all the defects from the contest rocks before tumbling but they were not in stock and the wait time was six weeks so I could not get it in time. The sintered diamond wheels have a 3mm thick diamond area that you can really press into. They are also able to be dressed to bring them back to a flat surface if you dig into them or dish them. The magic polish used on the contest rocks and these tears is not my usual A/O from rock shed Chuck
