I've got a bunch of projects started, been sitting around for about a month or so now. Well I finally finished one of them. Not a real big one but it's done!

Very nice earrings! Did you make the ear wires? I'm always afraid the copper ear wires will bend/distort after they're worn for a while. connrock

Sometimes, all it takes is the getting started. Nice earrings- I like copper with blue. I have found copper to be a poor choice for earwires. (I have a ton laying around now.) I use a great and better alternative that you might be interested in- niobium earwires (copper colored) from Rio. They are hypo allergenic, durable and look exactly like patina copper.

Thanks, Tela! I will check on the niobium. I have wire but it might be too heavy for earwires.

Re copper ear wires: I made some copper disk earrings and wanted the copper ear wires. I didn't know if my earlobes would turn green or have a bad reaction.
So Made the copper earwires and wore them. No ill effects. Made them put of thin headpins. Too thin, so I wrapped the decorative part around itself and hammered the front to harden the wire.
So far , so good.

No worries for them entering your ear canal Pat. I would be a little concerned about that copper Pat. Like Tela mentioned, niobium will do you better/safer.

I make my own copper ear wires using 20g round wire and I hammer the curve to harden it. I make them in batches and throw them in the tumbler with steel shot for a couple hours to harden even more.
I do the same with silver. I tumble them separately though. I had a bad experience tumbling a mix of metals once. I never figured out if it was the metals reacting or one of the stones that caused it but don't take chances now

But i suppose that is in a chelated/dissolved form. I use it(copper sulfate) in my water plant containers 50 ppm kills algae and snails, 100 kills crayfish, and above 200 can start to work on fish. But municipalities use copper sulfate to treat your drinking water(cheapish algicide). Maybe skin contact is OK. I see the Etsy folks enamel coat a lot of their copper jewelry. Maybe so it won't oxidize and blacken your skin as it will. Just seen what it does to critters.

Unless you are allergic to copper there is not any danger in contact with the metal, at least if you don't go nuts with it. It's been used for 5000 years as a healing jewelry, suposed to help with joint pain and a million other things. As far as internal use it is essential for a healthy life, the body regulates the copper in versus copper out. But you can definately OD on it if taken internally.
I wear 3 simple copper rings on one finger and have felt no different, yet I made a friend some and he swears it helped his sore knuckle overnight, go figure.
Copper can color your finger black, personally while I had this happen some it has stopped happening after a month or two of use.
As far as ear wires I would imagine they can be hardened, I have both copper and niobium ear wires and other then a test run of niobium with my daughter I hav not used them. As a side note the niobium still effected her ears but WAY less.
Are those Q-Ray bracelets they push as being so good for the body no copper based? Have to check.
Bottom line, I doubt wearing Cu ear wires will hurt you, might even help you.
DISCLAIMER: I am no doctor or researcher just passing on some stuff I read or saw on TV
Onr thing is fact there are tons and tons of copper jewelry being worn:)
