James, I don't think you'll find anyone, anywhere in the USA who speaks "good" English! I have 3 Aussie friends who visit every 2 years. One night as we were eating dinner one of them said something I didn't understand so I "commented" on how funny they talk! One of them said to me,,,"We sound funny mate???,,,you people sound like a bunch of gangstahs in the old movies"! LOL The Aussies have traveled all over this Country and have heard just about every form of English out there. They seem to have the most difficulty understanding how people in the South "tawk"! LOL In work we had a lot of guys from Poland who spoke a form of Polish and English we called "Po-glish"! LOL It's pretty hard to write how they spoke but an example of it is the way one of them pronounced Indianapolis.Indi-ano-polis! Another one was an adjustable wrench,,,,ahjus-tahble rrrench! Something like "do you have any information on this" would be something like,,,,you have-it sahm in-for-mah-shon from dees"! LOL So all n all,,y'all don't tawk to bad! LOL connrock

LOL connrock I do OK w/ Aussies con, the ones that absolutely butcher English in my case are the Scottish. And the Scotia in Nova Scotia must mean they are Scottish cause they talk just like the Scottish. The problem w/that is a Scottish fellow is often smart mouthed and you will shake your head in agreement as he calls you an arrogant yank-ha. And you won't understand a word he says. and then he will giggle and mutter in a small voice 'dumb yank'. When you finally figure out he has been taking slices out of you he will be a damn good friend. I think it is his way of testing to see if you understand him. My friend Mark is Scottish and I ask his British wife if he has slighted me- every time he opens his mouth. Cause he is as smart mouthed as anyone I know. and takes advantage of us slow southerners. one day he will get hog tied. and I will sit back and watch, laughing.

Thanks....back it goes. Yeah, this has probably been 4 weeks in 60/90 before the rest of the grit courses, quartz is sure interesting. Hey I'm new this hobby and have "chased these rabbits" for extra weeks in coarse grid and ended up with rocks gone. There has to be a suitable epoxy filler/bondo that would help.

Mark,,,I think all of us have been down this road but this "beast" is what it is and there are no epoxies hard enough to help the cause! Another point is,,,junk in,,,,junk out,,,,,, Many of us started out tumbling rocks we found somewhere not knowing anything about rock hardness but "our" rocks looked pretty so we wanted to polish them.We tried and in most cases failed but still wanted to pursue rock tumbling. We do some research,go on line and buy what's advertized as "tumbling rough". Well,,,,,,there is tumbling rough and there is good tumbling rough out there and a lot of us get stuck with rocks that are very much flawed ,,,in one way or the other,,,, and were really someones trash. When this happens we get VERY frustrated because we are doing things right but nothing is coming out as we expected. There are people here on this board and people on line who do sell good tumbling rough and these sources are where to buy it from. Even when you do get good tumbling rough it has to be "trimmed" and some even has to be broken up before it goes into the tumbler. If you don't get rid of flaws before tumbling it's only going to take much longer to get rid of them in a tumbler. All of this just takes time, patience and experience,,,, and there are no short cuts or "band-aids"! connrock

James,,,when I was an apprentice pipefitter a "fitter" from Scotland came here and I had to work with him.He was a VERY smart man and there was a LOT to learn from him,,,if I could learn to understand him! LOL He had absolutely NO patience with me and got VERY frustrated when I couldn't understand him! I don't know how many times he asked me,,,"arrrre ya dahft mahn"! It's not only the manner of speaking differently but also different phrases that are used by people from different Countries.Once I figured out that "Scotty" was referring to me being something like Daffy Duck I was at least in the "ball park"! LOL The key clue here was that after he called me "dahft",,,he also said,,,"Hav ya no sense at'all". He insulted me a LOT but I also learned a LOT from him so we were all even in the end! LOL connrock

Connrock, that's a riot, my late father was Scottish born and bred, and he would "put on" a heavy Scottish brogue for our amusement, including "arrre ye dauft?!" A more patient man never lived, though! Anyway, I have some very glassy smooth tumbled quartz that I acquired somewhere years ago, so I know it can be done. I'm thinking I need to see if my Dremel and a diamond bit can grind out the big cracks, and hope more don't form. I don't have room or resources for an elaborate grinder at this point.

LOL connrock I chalk that feisty behavior off to their carriage and personality. It's just the way they communicate. They poke you and expect a poke back. But they will certainly initiate a poke !! I think their insults are the way they say they like you. Takes getting used to.
