Howdy folks, yesterdays cuts. Having a bit of saw trouble as usual, so just the two.....Mel Another shrinkwood. This color pattern has a trade name I've seen assigned to it at the San Antonio show. I think they sell it as Midnight Sable Wood or something like that. Now this stuff is strange and I'm not sure what the heck it is. It shows up with the wood and is in the form of frothy, knobby or botryoidal nodules. Some look almost like wood or root casts and others like big rosettes or flowers. Some are mossy, or plumey and some are fortified inside. Most are pretty vuggy or fractured but this one is solid. I like to cut them just to see what they have inside. Couple of slabs:

Mel,
Yeah, that "Midnight Sable" is a name a Houston guy -- a helluva cabber, btw -- put to shrink wood he sells. I think he named it that after buying hundreds of pounds of it from Matt Dillon.

Matt: Yeah I saw that gentleman's cabs at the San Antonio show one year. He is definitely an artist when it comes to cabbing that stuff. Matt Dillon mentioned he had sold a bunch of that wood to the guy on his website and I gotta say, Matt's cabs of shrinkwood are pretty dang droolworthy as well.....Mel
