looks like the head and legs were cast, then the stones added. worth the price in copper and agates, probably...
would love to look at it and see (is it made in China?) anybody ever see anything like this before?

I used to work with (do research on turtles and hence folks were always giving me turtle art. I've seen turtle mosaics but made out of concrete and broken tile. That one is either a true piece of art or absolute junk. It would be worth a look. Its hard to believe that the agates are actually in a copper bezel like mounting or even attached with a copperlike matrix, but thats what it looks like in the photo. Buy it out of curiosity and if you get skunked let us know and we will all contribute a few bucks to make up for your loss. BTW most of my turtle art got sold for cheap, even the ones that had some artistic value. Go figure. Fun. Tom

Love turtles... used to have lots of turtle related collectibles, now just reference books left. I thought the piece was unique... loads of copper in it, unless it turns out to be copper flake resin or something... might have to buy it and ask them to mail it to me... it is about 4 hours away...

Those agates look "electroformed" The head and the leg looks realistic. I can say with some confidence it is at least modelled after Ocadia sinensis The Chinese Golden Thread Turtle. Which makes me think "made in china".

These are no longer important to us. May I gift them to your bride? PM me a mailing address and I'll send a FRB for her. Hoping she has a birthday coming soon!

shotgunner, the stones do look like the ones you find tumbled in the dollar store, don't they? Turtles have extra significance in China/asia being the representative of long life and also the old stories (also American Indian) of a turtle being the one holding up the world... 4 and a half hours drive one way is more than I can do to satisfy my curiousity. The folks have not answered my email inquiry, sold maybe , or probably thinking I am trying to pull a scam somehow. Craigslist is good for that.
