I found the photography to be the most challenging part too. I only have a point and shoot camera that cost around $100, but I was still able to manually change some settings. I found that turning the ISO down as low as it would go was important (mine went to 80). Then I set it on macro to get a good close up. I used a tripod to hold the camera steady.
To me, getting some glare on them is important to show the shine. I tried them in a light tent, but that was cutting down on the glare. I got some great pictures of the rocks, but they didn't look all that shiny. I finally ended up in my garage, sitting about in the middle. The garage door was open, so I could get a reflection of the sky through the door and one window. I turned each rock individually while looking at the camera's screen to show that glare just right.
I spent several hours trying different techniques until I was fairly happy with my results. I still have a lot to learn, but this was a great learning experience. I'd recommend that you keep your rocks and keep experimenting.

Sounds normal enough for where I come from-except we don't have neighbors. Have to do our own singing. Scares hell out of the coyotes. Russ
