My Uncle Willis has Alzheimer's disease and finally had to be taken in to a care home for his safety...he was moved back to his home town (mine too) and started living in Montana again,as of several months ago.. My wife and I got to visit Willis in June of this year and he was in and out with himself, but he started humming a song I knew from Dad singing it(his brother).. I sang it and he hummed it..LOL Willis looked at me,smiled and said,"That's how it's done"...Than he went back into his little world.. Yesterday we got a text from his son Steve...My Uncle Willis has given up the fight.. Quote" Sad to report that dad seems to be fighting his last battle. He is no longer eating or drinking and is on hospice. There comes a time when people turn their attention from this world and look toward heaven. One of dad's favorite songs says, "This world is not my home, I'm just passing through." The words seem prophetic. His family loves him with every fiber of our soul. He has been a mentor and a role model not only to his children but to so many relatives through the years. Please pray that he is comforted in the coming days by the thought of joining his wife, his brothers, two sisters and parents in that land filled with mansions and gold-lined streets.' Quote No grieving,we will celebrate his long life(93)and the things he helped us with, love, happiness and his kind thoughts through out his life.. A great teacher towards me with his experience with fossils and agates...Thumbs up Uncle Willis You will be missed, but my memories will be forever.......( Willis is the last of the VanDyke brothers in his generation )..

So sorry to hear. My dad had to go into full time care in April and has been going down hill. Your uncle sounds a lot like him. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

Sounds like Uncle Willis is ready. So glad y'all will be able to "celebrate" his glorious life and contributions he has made.

Like Mr Quartz, my dad lost his fight to Alzheimer's disease 7 years ago. Hard to watch him go as with your Uncle Willis. Take Care and Prayers for you and the Family.

Sorry to hear this Mike. Prayers be with you and the family.
I fear that my mother in law is headed down the same path, and my wife is stuck with taking care of everything. She has a brother living out of state who would help, but can't drive long distances anymore. Her other brother living right here is a worthless POS, who would rob his mother blind if he could. At least your uncle Willis is well loved, and will be well looked after right up til the end.

Thoughts for your family. No need to grieve, celebrate his life. We lost my Dad the same way last September.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. Im shure it is rough for his son especially. He sounds like an interesting feller. That is great pic with the huge ammonite.
those lyrics he sings, this world is not our home, we're only passing through. May be from this song.

Really sorry to hear of your loss Bro!!! My dad passed a long time ago and it still hurts sometimes as he never got to see my daughter Jane or some of his other grandkids. We already have you in our prayers, as I do all my friends here, and will gladly add a lil extra for this time too!! Mario & Jane
