I was wondering how you all keep the wire tight to the cab when wrapping. It seems like as soon as I bend the top and bottom wire to hold the cab tight, the stone no longer sits tight to the middle wire and leaves gaps. Is it because I'm not using nice, expensive, silver filled wire? When I bend it originally, I bend it tight to the cab. 10508531_10202346310518909_2113324973_n by kradzyniak89, on Flickr

First, you have to take into account the thickness of the wire when you make your bends. Then add some for your bindings. Your first bend does not fit, so odds are the others are not going to either. Place the stone on the table. Put the straight wire on the table, centered under the stone. Mark just outside the corners. Make sharp corners with your pliers. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I've been bending it against the stone at the corners, I guess that doesn't give the sharp enough angle that bending with the pliers does!

Remember when doing this work- you are forming a wire to fit the stone, not using the stone to fit the wire.

If you lay out your wire and mark it with a sharpie (very fine tip) to mark the center, then do your binding. You can roll the stone to one side and mark the center on the wire for the side binding, then repeat for the other side. Make all your bindings and then you can lift the wire to begin the bend of the wire to conform to the stone. Once you get the corners, use a pair of pliers to make the corners tighter and then fit the stone into it. Make your top corners and again use the pliers to finish the bends and fit the stone back in. Now it's time to tweak it a little to get it where you want it to be then holding it all together with one hand make your first wrap at the top to lock it all together!!! Piece of cake.... only took me about 3,958,618,291.373 tries to get it right and I am still learning !! But seriously, thats the way I do it, everyone has there own method to their madness. just takes time to get it where you want it. And I have seen a lot of other wraps that were not tight to the stone, and they, like yours, do not look bad at all!!! I used to make a heart out of wire and have my wrapped stone sitting in the middle. made it all out of the same piece of wire!! Rock, and Wrap On!!
