Used paint to highlight the cavities. Would be interesting to get a cab down to 400 grit and then use colored fillers to highlight patterns before final polish. Large coral is silicified well to the center. Sliced along the tubes so that it will fit in the saw vice to cut across the tubes. Cut across the tubes is target.

I really like the painted coral. Very cool patterns!!! What kind of paint did you use to highlight the cavities? Would something like an acid dye work? I use Perfection dyes to dye feathers and materials for tying jigs. Never dyed any rocks before but may try a few.

Thinking about trying grout and then polishing to completely fill the voids. like a dark color for the void fill.

Wow that is really cool looking material and I love the color......Mel That is all about the black muck Mel. That coral is blinding white when found above the muck line in the river. But down in the black muck it turns almost bluish. The coral in the Suwannee river turns very black. Check this Suwannee River pebble out. If you sawed it in half the center would be dead white. And the reaction turns artifacts dark too. I have broken pieces of bluish and blackish arrowheads and sure enough they would be white on the inside. So process may take a 1000 years ?
