After vacationing in Klamath Falls last summer, I wanted to go back to spend more time on the locations I scouted. It was worth the trip! Two locations within a mile of each other produced: Wonderstone Picture Jasper Tumble sized jaspers and agates Fossil fish And I barely scratched the surface. Wonderstone I carved into a freestanding, freeform piece to display on an end table. Sorry about some of the blurry photos. My camera is fussy. This piece is about 6" X 5". Unfortunately not round enough to produce a sphere. Now I have to go back! Oh darn... Wonderstone. I ground and polished a wide area just to see the pattern. Crazy patterned wonderstone. Love this stuff. Awesome colors. And it's quite hard. Owyhee style picture jasper. I scored a pretty big pocket of this. Then I went out and bought some heavier duty tools, thinking there was more of this farther down. Next day...nothing but hard clay. Heh. I'd have more pictures of pieces with more pattern, but I haven't had time to prep them. I scored a bunch of tumble sized jaspers and agates in the same area as the wonderstone, but also near where I found the fossil fish. These are not tumbled yet, just wet. The photo sucks...doesn't show how distinctly multicolored these are. I also posted these fish in the fossil area, so I won't make a big deal about them here. Thanks for looking!

Hey donkey, I love your finds, what you did with them and your post about it! What a great haul. I had never heard of that area but Oregon is not too far away. I drove through the coast this winter (before I got into rockhounding sadly) and can't wait to go back. Stayed in Eureka, how fun. Are you attracted to water for hounding or what sort of signals do you look for?

Are you attracted to water for hounding or what sort of signals do you look for? The cool part was all the variety. Good luck and a sharp eye have been my best rockhounding tools since childhood. I'd like to be able to say I've educated myself about geological indicators, but beyond the basics, I simply don't have the patience for it. Wish I did.
