I'm heading down this coming weekend, the info I find is spotty. I don't want to get into the POTUS' newly off-limits "solar energy zones" and I don't want to risk tromping onto a claim so I'm wondering if anyone has any boots-on-the-ground perspective on actual hounding in the area.
I'm going either way, armed with just enough information and optimism to be dangerous, but any actual advice would be very welcome.

Only thing I know of interest in the valley is Fort Garland. Up around the old Summitville mine is some interesting stuff. Cool stuff up by Creede. Used to hunt and fish quite a lot in that area, but treated the valley as something to get across. Didn't have a chance to look around much, but I suspect there are some interesting rocks between Summitville and Platoro. Don't reckon that's where you're headed, though.

Well, just down the road there is a whole setup with bleachers and everything where you can watch for UFO's. I've never been that bored, and I'm sure you won't be either, but it's there. The little museum at Fort Garland is worth checking out, though, if anyone is passing through there. Kit Carson was the commander there.
