Made a few more cuts off a Sierra primrose nodule end cut. Hardrock mined this on our own ranch. We had an old 1880's wagon trail across a hillside that was lined with boulders full of these nodules. Only problem was, it was very hot there and it took a real long time with a heavy sledge to break down a boulder and remove the nodules. Mostly they would just shatter during the process so I quit mining them and just hunted for ones that had already weathered out. I used to have pics of the nodules in situ but somehow I lost them. Anyway, here are a few cuts. The green is included epidote which seems to be associated with much of the poppy jasper in the valley......Mel This was the first slab off. Notice the light colored area that is actually metallic. Our ranch was next door to a gold nine and much of the Sierra Primrose Jasper has non tarnish able, gold rich, metallics like pyrite etc included. In some areas of the valley, the gold mine shafts were driven right into solid jasper outcrops which were mined for their gold content and many of the poppy sites actually began their lives as gold claims.

Always love hearing the story behind the poppies.
