I'm considering making a rosary with 24G copper wire. I have some 3-4mm beads which would look really good with a wire that small. Do you think it's too small of a gauge for copper? I have 22G copper and stainless steel, and 24G stainless on order.

Yes, I think 22g copper wouldn't be strong enough for something used as much as a rosary. Stainless steel would be better.

Woops, that was supposed to say 24G copper. It's not strong enough for a normal rosary, but I think I could do an "altar/display" version, or maybe even a delicate one for special occasions. The normal rosaries will be made with 22G and 20G, depending on the bead size.
*sigh* I keep finding more and more reasons to buy a tumbler *now*. I think I've passed the "it's useful but unnecessary" to the "it will make your life simpler" stage of jewelry making.

Here are two 6mm Serpentine beads. The silver-plated wire is 20G and the copper is 22G. Since Serpentine is so soft (at least these ones are), I have to use copper. I'd love to use stainless for the dark color...but it scratched and ground the beads the second I tried to make a test loop. What do you think? 20G or 22G? I personally like the 22G.... It doesn't seem to dominate the beads.

I think I prefer the silver- it looks better with the beads.

The silver is plated and I won't be using it anymore. All my plated wire is for drafting purposes. I only used it in the photograph because it's 20G.

I don't see much difference in the gauge size. Either one looks fine to me.
