you can run one barrel or both without issue. The only time that is an issue is on the double barrel lot-o. I would go with 6 tablespoons of grit per barrel (one table spoon per pound).

Thanks for the information. I wanted to be sure it was a Lortone QT66 before I bought any supplies. I ordered a belt and bearings set from The Rock Shed. I ordered by Lot-O from them and was very pleased. Hopefully I will have this up and running in time to collect some coral with jamesp

Keep fingers crossed for no heavy rains. An unrain dance . It dropped to 300 cu. ft./second from 450 last week giving some buffer. I think I am going later this week. Had a rain a couple of days ago. I was there July 1,2,3. Notice the 82 year median historic level is the red triangles at 500, which is a bit on the high side but acceptable

The instructions that came with my QT 66 recommends 10 tbs. grit per barrel. I can tell you that in one weeks time that amount of grit does get broken down. I normally clean out and add fresh water and grit every seven days. Never find any left over coarse grit.
I know that many folks here use less girt than that. In the near future I plan on doing an experiment with two identically loaded barrels. In one I'll use my normal 10 tbs. grit and clean out weekly. In the other I'll do the recharge method which will use only 4 tbs. per week. I'll keep notes and post my results.

Lortone sells grit. Most use the 1 tablespoon per lb. capacity. I always used less then added a little more after 3 days if slurry wasn't forming. You can buy a 12 lb. barrel for that tumbler and have a really nice set up.
