Hey all... got some big rocks that won't fit in my little 6" trim saw... was wondering if anyone has tried cutting with a miter saw, loaded with a diamond grinding blade? Went to Sears and saw a nice 10" miter saw with a laser line to see where you are cutting (was only 149.99) and was pondering the idea.
Let me know what you think.

When I have a rock that's too big for our 6" saw, I roll the rock under the blade. It may not always cut it all the way through, but it will cut it enough that I can get a chisel down into it and am able to break it in smaller pieces.

The main reason for pondering this idea, is because I started working on some stone athame blade ideas, and need something that can cut a large rock, into a straight slab piece... also for making the handles, since I'm looking for ways to use one solid piece... very difficult, but I think it's possible, if I can figure out a way to keep the sawblade cool, and yet still get maximum cutting area...
For getting small chunks from big rocks though, your idea isn't bad at all, llana... have used that method myself a few times, and it works great..

im not an expert but the prob i see is heat if you use a metal blade you might warp it or over heat the rock and crack it without coolent, i realy liked the saw ron just got it cuts from above but alot bigger price im sure , i guess if you can fig a way to use coolent with it then it just might work out seeya---john

I'm figuring I can arrange a pump system that will continuously spray tool cool onto the blade, while it's cutting... I'm figuring it should work, if I cna concentrate the fluid onto the blade, and not all over the room...
