This is a big lake, about 6 miles across and 14 miles long. Most of it is 11 feet deep. I have a primitive camp on it. Heading east out of the canal in the morning Out in the lake looking east Headed north and looking at west shore of Ocala National Forest Looking north from shore. Rocky Point on left in foreground 6 miles away. Hog island behind it. Drayton Island in foreground on right, main land behind it. Looking south west at most distant shoreline that disappeared over the horizon. In-laws fishing and strategically placed for alligator attack. Same spot, but morning(smiling) View to north from shore. Ocala National forest shoreline. Sunrise to the south east from shore Old man in the evening sky Wolf man moon in evening Little storm out of south east about 4 minutes away from shore, wind strong Run for shelter. White caps forming

wow! such a beautiful place, such wonderful photograpy. Jamesp thanks for sharing. I can practically hear the water and smell the humidity in the air. That was great! ( except the alligator part yikes! LOL give me our local water snakes any time!)

( except the alligator part yikes! LOL give me our local water snakes any time!) That is interior Florida snowmom. It is a different world from coastal Florida. Much less populated and not visited. It is not unusual to see no one on that lake all day long. The lake being shallow gets stirred up quickly in a storm. The edge of the lake is very shallow and full of aquatic vegetation and sanctuary from storms if in a boat. It is really just a wide spot in the St. John's River. Many enter the mouth of the river in Jacksonville 125 miles north. And tour the river on long journeys well past Orlando about 150 miles to the south in anything from yachts to home made house boats. It was an old steamboat route and is full of old bottles especially at the old docking locations. Sharp rods with a t-handles are used to probe the sand for old bottles. Hard to believe your Great Lakes would dwarf this lake.

Wonder place and I understand a great fishing spot. Salt water fish in the lake Donny, bass fisherman are perplexed when they catch a redfish on a plastic worm. They hook into a 25 pound redfish and are certain the world record bass is going in the boat.

Awesome pics James.....Loving the sunrise... I think the reflection off the water has something to do with a sunrise.

Amazing place! I love it. I would be scared of the alligators though.

I have some fond memories of my own from the east side of Lake George. Caught a baby alligator for some west coast buddies to hold and take pics with. Their goal was to see one. My solution was to hand them one! That same night the four of us found over $1000 worth of frogs and a single legless lizard to bring back to Kali for sale in the store.
Just did some reading about the marine fishery in that lake. Tarpon, multi spotted redfish, speckled sea trout and of course blue crab are all on the menu at Lake George. I had no clue. Seems weird to me to be able to catch largemouth bass and redfish with the same bait in the same water.

Sure is nice working in a playground. If you live or work where other people go for vacation you probably did something correct in the past. Thanks for the ride. Jim

Jim I bought that place for nothing Jim. About 15 years ago. The sellers thought it was wetland. I cut it into 4 lots and sold two lake fronts for nice profit. Covered in palmettos and the rich doctor did not want to fool w/it. Hired machines and ran a chain saw to cut them. They are like cutting anchor rope.

It wouldn't be Florida without a gator picture now would it. Nice place, wouldn't mind throwing a line in there but I wouldn't wade like I do here in Missouri.

Large breeder size shrimp come in the lake in late summer.Limit, 5 gallon bucket per boat per day. Croakers, mullet, sting rays, flounder and others. The saltwater species are thicker on the NW corner where Salt Springs flows into the lake especially when heavy rain reduces the salinity in the rest of the lake. I get that alligator request quite often. They can be hard to get close to. well done. The mullet are big too. Catching mullet with oatmeal, feels like you have hooked a torpedo

Cool, even the bait is fun to catch there. Nice bend in the rod.

The boat launch we used as access to the lake had a small pond off the side of the lake. It was 20 yards back under trees. That is where baby gators go to avoid being eaten by the bigger ones. Its a no brainer to wade in after dark with a head lamp and grab one. I could a caught 4-5!!
That boat launch closes at night now. No more access like we had in 2006.
You keep making more reasons for me to come hang out for a couple weeks.
