Howdy folks, Had trail rides Friday-Sunday this week so not a lot of time to run the ole saw. Did get one hunk of Ocean Jasper cut. I bought this at Snyders and have come to the conclusion that I suck eggs at buying Ocean Jasper. Looked so good on the outside and inside, barely discernible golden orbs. Very ehh stuff. I may turn the heel around as it looks like I can maybe get good cab pattern or two there. After seeing this, I don't have a lot of hope for the other pieces I bought that day either *L*. Oh well, it was "only" like $15 a pound.....Mel

Rough can be like buying lottery tickets. It's a little better when you can inspect the material, but most of my purchases have been online. Maybe the seller knows more than I do or maybe it is just luck. I have had bad experiences buying bruneau nodules and boulder opal. I won't buy any more of those online. I bought 5 or 6 nodules of Montana nodules recently and had a dialog with the ebay seller asking for advice and recommendations on the items he had listed and he also provided general advice on buying Montana.
I do pretty well when the seller provides pictures of all sides of the rough piece and the pattern is visible. Buying anything where you can't see inside is just luck.

I remember when Ocean Jasper hit the scene in Quartzsite years ago. Really nice material but too pricey for me. I decided to wait until the next year hoping after initial frenzy prices would drop. Next year prices were still high but quality really went down. Most material I see at shows anymore is really poor quality.

Yep, I agree with you John. I was at Quartzite at the beginning too and the first OJ out was truly beautiful. I got a very few slabs as they were real pricy. Now I wish I would have bought all they had as an investment. Scarcity and price on good stuff increased so quickly it would have beat the performance of any stock I own *L*.....Mel

For those who haven't seen it, this is the good stuff. I got some on ebay years ago. It was reasonable. I've got some of the newer also a while back and don't like enasrly as much. This material is very gemmy.
