Welcome to the forum Joe. Good find. We have found some similar looking stuff near Malhuer lake in Oregon, call it cow patty agate {size, shape, and color}. Cast into plaster of Paris and split it's nice mtl. Takes a polish well.

What Mel said. Stromatolite. Fossil sea life. Should be fairly common in your area. Cuts interesting cabs, and usually takes a nice polish.

Hey, thanks jakesrocks!!! Im heading out tomorrow to wamsutter for some of what they call 'turitella agate' but from what research ive done that name is incorrect as to turitella was in sea water. I forgot the proper name but anyways i believe there are some stromatolites as well out there that i am going to search out as well. Thank you for the info lad.

Turritela agate is found in your area. That whole area was a shallow sea many millions of years ago. If the shells are long, thin spirals, it's turritela. Much of it will be fulls of cracks, pits and voids, but if you find solid pieces, you've found the prize.

jealous (there, I said it!) thank you snowmom, not much to be jealous about but then again this state does have alot more to offer than others. I am very pleased with these finds and cant wait to get the machines to do something with them (to cool to tumble). As for Braders.....dont listen to that guy haha i make the dang heads, who in there right mind would want to buy one from little america? Lol jk but yes i will agree. I tend to have an eye for those as well.
