Well i decided to join this forum seeing that it may be fun. I have had my tumbler (thumblers ar-12) going non stop for about a year thus far. I also have a 16 inch saw i just got and fixed up to make slabs and stuff. With my stones i make jewelry and other fun things. Where i am (Alaska) it is easy to find cool rocks, but not so much agates and nice jaspers without going in the mountians (for a week trip with a large 4x4 atv and about 100 miles away) but i still manage to find cool stuff. Up here nice glassy jasper is hard to come by as is agates (unless your in the good area in the mountains). If i do find an agate it it probably white as colored agates are really hard to find. I do have a lot of people looking to buy / trade stuff from me so i have a lot of inventory usually. I know quite a few folks in the field of lapidary and i'm lucky enough to be able to get some material from some world class locations and mines (and the "common" blizzard stone). I also made my own website to showcase what is on my display cases. With that said here is some natural crystals, tumbled stuff, a slab of an agate, and a piece of jewelry i made so yo can get an idea of what i'm all about. Look forward to being apart of this forum, i will throw up some more photos soon Glenn Quartz crystals - AK Prehnite - AK Necklace i made for a friend Blizzard Stone - Only found in Alaska Slabbed agate - AK (my favorite i have cut thus far) Just some jasper (big 4" one and a few others are from Alaska) Pendant i made for someone, Jasper in quartz - AK

Welcome from Missouri. I like the necklace. What did you use to drill the hole with? I have a few slabs I'd like to try and drill.

Blizzard stone is basically a gabbro that is black and white and the most important feature is it attracts a magnet... supposedly the stuff sells for $0.20 per gram... If it sold for that much i wouldn't have to work. supposedly it is only found in Alaska though (not sure if i believe that). I used a standard diamond drill bit with a dremel (drilling under water) If your drilling that close to the top it is always possible the rock will break out (1/10 times) It takes a while to drill through something. Soon i'm going to get an angle grinder and special pads to grind and polish rock, the finest grit is 3000. If anyone needs stuff slabbed i am more than willing to do that, I might put up a few slabs and crystals on here that i'm going to sell to get rid of. I'll post more photos of stuff soon... might be slabbing rock and agates tonight

I totally dig the one you labelled "rock". That due to your willingness to accept it as just that. A rock!!

In roughly 2-3 weeks i will be starting getting polished rocks out of my tumbler... I will post photos as i get them out... I have some really nice jaspers and agates i have found earlier in the year. This week is pre-polish week, first batch of pre-polish gets done Friday, I have 2 batches of pre-polish to do with my new process of tumbling to be cost and space efficient.
I will probably make a new topic for that... as of now i just need to set my brand new cabbing unit up
