Half globe single coral head well filled. No pulp, white section pearlescent/opalescent. 28 pounds. Opalescence difficult to photograph. Cut on short dimension due to vise limitations. Blade height too small too. Slightly mal formed on root side. Couple of fractures above tape measure. Bottom of photo shows how white section has a sheen or opalescence, but sheen better above tape measure. Again, large heads like this get some abstract colors and textures going on. 'Chalcedony tubes' follow 'corallite tubes', but not always on other specimens. Chalcedony tubes followed corallite tubes on this one too. Noticed a hole in this moss covered head. Lifting out of the water about a pint spilled out of the hole. Pretty good hint that it is hollow. Removed face breaks with saw and opened cavity. Tricky to photograph.

More nice ones, James. Like that opalescent one! The coral down in Zephyr Hills FL has the weirdest mix of colors on the sun facing side. Problem is it is only about a one inch layer on a big coral. You have to carry the whole 50 pound head and cut the top off of it with a 30 inch saw. The 400-500 pound ones may have a 2 inch layer of fine color. It's just difficult to remove that layer. It is a small area where it occurs there. I got to go knock on this citrus farmers door and get permission to collect.

That is pretty cool, coral is a fun rock to collect, the different variations, sizes, shapes and colors. Life is like a box of Florida corals, ya never know what you're going to get.
